On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, The African Child Policy Forum, Childwatch International Research Network and Unicef Innocenti Research Center, organised in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, a Global Conference on Research and Child Rights, "Children's Rights at a Crossroads", from November 30th to December 2nd, 2009. Over 300 participants representing academic institutions, international organisations, governments, non-governmental organisations, civil society and youth, met to renew their commitment to children’s rights and the role of knowledge in advancing this cause.
Key objectives of the Conference were to identify key dimensions of a global research agenda for the realisation of children’s rights, to establish a framework for collaboration between policy makers, practitioners and academics for the improved use of research, and to develop models of collaboration with youth in participatory research.

The African Child Policy Forum (ACPF) is an independent, not-for-profit, pan-African institution of policy research and dialogue on the African child.
The Childwatch International Research Network is a global network of institutions that collaborate in child research for the purpose of promoting child rights and improving children’s well-being around the world.
The UNICEF Innocenti Research Centre in Florence, Italy, was established in 1988 to strengthen the research capability of the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) and to support its advocacy for children worldwide.
