Dr Jama Gulaid is the Country Representative for the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in Swaziland.
He joined the UNICEF Swaziland team in October 2006, but has been with UNICEF for nearly 24 years. Starting his assignment in Nigeria in 1988, he also served the organisation in New York, Ghana and Vietnam in a number of capacities – as a field epidemiologist, head of health and nutrition program, a global advisor on child survival, education and health sector reforms and poverty reduction initiatives.
Dr Gulaid is a public health specialist. He has Masters and Doctoral degrees in this field from the University of Minnesota. He studied history, intercultural studies and biology at Trinity College, Connecticut. For his service in public health, Dr Gulaid received awards from the Better Life for Rural Women Association of Nigeria, the Medical Association of Ghana, and the Medal for the People’s Health from the Government of Vietnam.
Dr Gulaid was born in Kenya and is a national of the United States of America. He is married and has two daughters and a son.
