October 24 - United Nations - This year marks the 25th anniversary of the declaration of 17 October as the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty by the United Nations General Assembly. Under the theme "Answering the Call of October 17 to end poverty: A path toward peaceful and inclusive societies," this year's commemoration reminds us of the importance of inequality, dignity, solidarity and equal voice in the fight to end poverty everywhere.

October 23 - Malnutrition prevents almost a fifth of children in Ghana from growing properly. The problem is particularly acute in Bentum, Apprah and Nyanyano, rural communities with scant medical facilities, where pregnant women rarely get the right food and mothers have nowhere to turn.

From 23rd to 25th October 2017, Dakar will host a High-Level Meeting (HLM) on ending child marriage in West and Central Africa. The meeting will be held at the King Fahd Palace Hotel.

ZIMBABWE: Child Marriages Draft Bill Complete

October 23 - Government has completed drafting a Bill, which outlaws child marriages in line with the provisions of the Constitution, newly appointed Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Retired Major-General Happyton Bonyongwe has said.

October 20 - Research shows that, despite ‘remarkable progress’ on child mortality, many of the 5.6 million deaths last year among children aged under five were preventable.
