7 June 2016 - Ratified by every country except one—South Sudan—the Convention on the Rights of the Child and the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women prohibit child marriage. However, despite widespread condemnation and laws against the practice, child marriage is the terrible fate that many young girls face across the world. Its persistence is mainly attributed to poverty and gender inequality.

Pius Agbétomey, a lancé, hier, à Lomé, le projet dénommé « Amélioration de l’accès à la Justice pour les enfants au Togo ». Ce projet, financé par la délégation de l’Union Européenne et l’UNICEF, a pour but d’améliorer l’accès des mineurs à la Justice, à travers le renforcement d’un système de Justice spécialisé et protecteur pour tous les mineurs qui entrent en contact avec la loi, à savoir les enfants auteurs d’infractions, les enfants victimes et les enfants témoins.
