African Union endorses African Leaders for Nutrition Initiative

"There's every reason to care: poor nutrition is the main cause of death for millions of children under five. Indeed, 3 million children die every year in Africa from malnutrition. If current trends continue to 2030, Africa will have lost a mind boggling 36 million children because they didn't have enough to eat or to eat well enough." - African Development Bank President Akinwumi Adesina.

NIGERIA: Child Labour and Human Trafficking

At a recent meeting of the National Steering Committee on Child Labour, the Federal Government reiterated its commitment to stopping the social menace of child labour and human trafficking in the country.

The International Children's Peace Prize is awarded annually to an exceptional child, whose courageous or otherwise remarkable actions have made a difference in improving children’s rights, which helps children worldwide. The motivation behind the prize is to provide a platform for children to express their ideas and personal involvement in children’s rights. KidsRights feels that children should be recognized, awarded and motivated in their fierce efforts to improve their own situation and that of the children in their environment and even the world.

Last Wednesday saw thousands of children across South Africa returning to school, with some starting for the first time. Pictures of learners catching up with friends, being assigned teachers and attending their first assemblies filled news feeds. While there were some tears, particularly for those beginning their school careers, the sentiment was an overwhelmingly positive one. The same could not be said for 11-year-old Thabang.
