The National Commission for Human Rights of Rwanda and a number of civil society organisations working to promote children's welfare in Rwanda have urged the Government to step up efforts to protect children's rights.

October 9 2017 - Most recently, the Government lifted the ban which had been imposed on foreigners or persons outside Rwanda to adopt children in the country. Initially, the decision to bar the adoption of Rwandan children was based on reasonable concerns that children's best interest may not be potentially catered for. It was important to first ensure the protection of adopted children while abroad.

29 November 2016 - The Prime Minister, Anastase Murekezi, yesterday, unveiled the newly constructed Regional Centre of Excellence, a coordination facility for African security organs in responding to Gender Based Violence and child abuse.

20 May 2016 – Today the Prime Minister Anastase Murekezi announced the imminent setup of a National Nutrition and Food Program Coordination Secretariat to eradicate malnutrition. This was during the launch of the Gikuriro Project, a five-year, RWF 14.8 billion project designed to improve the nutritional status of women and children under five years of age.
