The children from the eastern Moxico Province, in representation of the minors of the country, defended on Saturday in Luena District more commitment by the Angolan government and civil society in the strong fight against all kinds of violence against children in the family.

Lagos — Vice Chairman of Chijindu Eze Foundation, a child advocacy foundation, Mrs Stella Dike, yesterday deplored the high incidence of child abuse in the country and pledged to eradicate the phenomenon.

The high rate of child abuse and corporal punishment in the country has been attributed to lack of awareness on the part of the government, parents, guardians and teachers. Despite the 1989 United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, many States and not only in Africa still use corporal punishment as the only way to disciplining children.
