There is a growing recognition in Eastern and Southern Africa that child-sensitive protection policies are a critical way to provide a social safety net for the region’s poorest and most vulnerable children. Recently, Members of Parliament from across the region committed to pass better aimed at creating social policies that protect children.

Association of Orphaned and Vulnerable Children (OVC) Non Governmental Organisations of Nigeria (AONN) yesterday warned of an imminent epidemic if the rising population of OVC in Nigeria put at 17.5 million in 2008 and a seeming lackadaisical approach to issues relating to these groups of children by government departments and agencies responsible for them are not urgently addressed.
