25 September 2012 — Press release. An action plan to put an end to the use of child soldiers has been put forward by the Justice and Equality Movement (JEM).
A faction of one of the armed groups in Darfur has agreed to prohibit the use of child soldiers in its ranks after discussions with the joint African Union-United Nations peacekeeping mission in the Sudanese region (UNAMID), the mission reported today.
Representatives of the United Nations and the Sudanese opposition movement, the Justice and Equality Movement (JEM), will sign an historic Agreement on the protection of children in the Darfur conflict on Wednesday 21 July.
