NIGERIA: Lagos Inaugurates Committee on Child's Rights Law


A 29-member committee, drawn from different professions has been inaugurated by the Lagos State Government in fulfillment of Section 281 of the Lagos State Child's Right Law, which prescribed the establishment of a committee to implement the law in the state.

Those in the committee include Professor Bolaji Owasaoye and Mrs. Funmi Ajumobi, Vanguard Kiddies Editor, and the Project Manager, LEARN, Mrs. Awoyomi, among others.

At the inauguration, the Deputy Governor, Mrs. Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, urged the members to see their appointments as a call to protect children's rights.

She expressed confidence in the ability of the committee to discharge its functions and responsibilities diligently and responsibly for the sake of children in the state.

Orelope-Adefulire said: "This committee is expected to restore hope, confidence, self-esteem and improve children's status in our challenging environment."

These, aside from all other rights of children as entrenched in the relevant sections of our constitution and child's Right Law," she added.
